Threepwood Gala North substation hasn’t even applied for planning permission, but already at least six speculators want to cash in on it. They are:
- Galileo Rowantree – Longmuir wind, battery and solar farm above Stow
- BP Lightsource – battery installation at Threepwood
- RES – Glenburnie wind and battery installation at Longcroft
- Mysterious one; Voltalia Peat Law presumably more turbines, solar panels and batteries
- Fred Olsen – Scawd Law, windfarm currently at public inquiry
- New for July 2025: ABO – Woodheads solar and battery installation
If you think that sounds bad, Eccles substation near Coldstream now has 9 or 10 battery, solar and data centre speculators circling for the kill.
If a substation at Threepwood gets permission, Lauderdale and surrounds will be marked as an industrial zone. We can expect to see the landscape change from farming, woodland and nature to humming industrial units surrounded by fences and cameras. Every hill topped with a dozen turbines, each the height of Canary Wharf Tower in London’s Docklands.
