Sheepfold Energy Storage
Lightsource bp is working on a proposal for an energy storage project on a site adjacent to the proposed SP Energy Networks Gala North substation at Threepwood, south of Lauder and west of Blainslie.
The site they have earmarked has a footprint of 49 acres and would contain 68 battery containers. The license would be to operate the lithium batteries for 40 years. The site lies less than 1km north of Threepwood Moss Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). If given the go-ahead, the battery containers would be visible from the Southern Upland Way.
Here’s a map of the proposed energy storage project (shown in pink) alongside the proposed Gala North substation and nearby Woodheads Energy Park proposal. Part of Threepwood Moss SSSI is visible at the bottom of the map.
