Longmuir Renewable Energy and Biodiversity Project

Back for a third attempt, Galileo Empower is developing proposals for what it calls a renewable energy and biodiversity enhancement project on land approximately 4.5km north of the village of Stow in the Scottish Borders.

The initial proposals are for:

  • Up to 10 turbines with a maximum tip height of 200m, with individual ratings of 7.2MW, resulting in a total capacity of 72MW
  • Co-location of solar photovoltaics, of up to 50MW
  • A battery energy storage system of up to 40MW
  • Specific land enhancements to increase biodiversity in the immediate area of the turbines and solar panels.

Project Timeline

  • April 2024 – Environmental surveys begin

  • April 2025 – First round of public consultations and Scoping Request

  • Summer 2025 – Scoping Response, design refinement

  • Autumn 2025 – Second round of public consultations, finalise design

    March 2026 – second round of public consulations

  • December 2025 TBC – Application for consent to Scottish Government Energy Consents Unit (ECU)
