Two years after the first low key consultation, SP Energy Networks is running another minimal consultation on a substation that, if approved, would enable industrialisation across Lauderdale, the Borders and rural Midlothian.
Do get along to at least one of the consultation sessions:
Tuesday 9th June, 3-7 pm Lauder Public Hall
Wednesday 10th June, 3-7 pm Blainslie Village Hall
This substation would be critical to new and giant pylons from Livingston to Lauder to Newcastleton and from Dalkeith to Galashiels.
In addition it would connect the windfarms: Glenburnie, Ditcher Law, Longmuir, Dun Law repowering, Greystone Knowe, Torfichen and Scawd Law. Solar and battery speculators who have so far declared an interest are ABO energy Woodheads Solar and BP Lightsource Sheepfold BESS.
And that’s before we get to SPEN’s proposed Cross Border Connection, which would enable a Teviot substation and additional gigantic windfarms all the way down to Newcastleton near Gretna.
Not to be hyperbolic, but in short, if Spanish-owned Scottish Power Energy Networks get their way, our beautiful rolling countryside, home to many threatened species, will be gone forever.
Information so far released from SPEN is here. Note that they intend to consult on the substation minus two thirds of their planned pylons.
