Scottish Power Renewables has put in applications to Scottish Borders Council planning for two 100 metre tall meteorological masts at Dun Law windfarm on Soutra.

If approved these structures would be the precursor to:

  • A new windfarm at Dun Law, with turbines at least three times taller than existent
  • Large new 132kv overhead powerline through Lauderdale with 40 metre tall pylons. (This is the idea that SPEN consulted on last year)
  • The powerline being used to justify a new substation at Threepwood (Gala North)
  • The substation connecting a third powerline through Lauderdale. This would be 400kv with pylons 70 metres tall. (SPEN is keeping that under wraps for now.)

The Gala North substation is key to SPEN’s Cross Border Connection idea. This is the 60 mile powerline down to Newcastleton that SPEN has consulted on most recently. And at least four more giant new windfarms plus solar and battery farms want to connect to the substation at Threepwood.

Have Your Say

Wherever you are in the Borders, please write to your councillors and let them know that you object to planning applications 25/00657 FUL and 25/00658 FUL.

The official deadline for comments has quietly slipped past. Please help get these applications to the SBC planning committee for consideration. Let’s try and stop them getting through on the nod. Write to your councillors and let them know that you object to piecemeal salami sliced industrialisation.
